we are so NOT 'sight seers'. is that the word i'm looking for? like, we don't go to see something, ever. i've never even been to the statue of liberty up close. everyone who lives within a 200 mile radius of me, especially my age, i am sure, has been there. the kids might change this though. aiden for instance, has been fascinated with anything nyc, so you bet the statue of liberty too, ever since he learned of them.
but today, we ventured out to a state park which houses the highest point in all of the state, "high point" as it is appropriately named.
it's pretty high.
we couldn't all attempt to climb the stairs. instead brady and i braved it but only got until we looked up and saw this. though a little blurry, it gives you an idea of how high inside it is (~290 steps. ~220' ). brady chickened out and it is he who i thank for not having to myself.
instead, we waiting outside while brett soloed it.
here is his proof picture positive from the highest window inside. he says it doesn't do the view justice though. clicking on the picture to view it larger, you can see where we parked.

his victory rest.
then onto the "hike" that the boys were all about. these will be more fun when their little legs aren't as little though.
let's see if clicking on this works. colin was being a bit dramatic over seeing a pond of some sort.

oh! then as we were studying some leaves and such. they give you some reading material as a guide. aiden ripped a leaf and smelled it. you smell leaves after you rip them apart too don't you?
if you don't, you must have missed that this type smells like lemons! it was pretty neat. nothing in the nature guide spoke of this though so we were left to guess it may be from a white birch.
as we were leaving the park and talking about future plans of going back, we noticed how much smaller yet still big the monument looked from further away.
when we were about 20 miles away we stopped again and noticed again how much smaller yet still big the monument looked. if you click on the picture you can make it larger like the other ones you clicked on.

a total 45 minutes away in our hometown we noticed yet again how we could see it. if we squinted really hard which my camera doesn't do, some of us could see it way far out. we never ever saw that before. it's cool seeing things.
